Can I study for a PGDE course by part-time or distance learning?

Yes – at the Open University, the University of Aberdeen, the University of Dundee and the the University of Strathclyde.

What are my options with the Open University?

Online and Distance Learning Training Opportunity for Mathematics teachers in Scotland with The Open University. You can study the OU PGDE Mathematics programme full time (August to June) or part time (19 months).

Entry requirements are the same as those for full time PGDE programmes. For further information, contact the Open University in Scotland on 0131 226 3851 or Scotland@open.ac.uk.

Closing date for applications for the August 2010 programme is Friday February 19th.

What are my options at the University of Aberdeen?

You can study a two-year part-time PGDE programme, both Primary and Secondary – it's got the same entry qualifications as the full-time course.

The programme is delivered in partnership with Angus, Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Highland, Moray, Orkney and Shetland Councils – and you must live in one of these local authority areas to qualify for the course.

The subjects offered are English, Gaelic, Home Economics, Maths and Physics with Science. There are limited places, so it's a good idea to apply early.

What are my options at the University of Dundee?

The University of Dundee offers a flexible PGDE course. This means you can get qualified by full-time distance learning in 36 weeks, or part-time over 72 weeks.

The subjects offered are: English, Maths, Chemistry, Physics, Modern Languages and Home Economics.

Strathclyde are offering part-time PGDE courses on all subjects listed under full time PGDE courses and entry requirements are exactly the same as the full time courses.
