Lynne Hannah

Name:Lynne Hannah
Subject: Maths
Location: Bannockburn High School.

After I finished my maths degree I worked for a year but I was never very happy in my job. I'd done a lot of staff training though, which I enjoyed, and that's what made me think that teaching would be a good career move for me.

The PGDE course was good, but your practical skills really kick in when you got into a classroom for teacher placements. It's a huge learning curve because every child and every school's different. You need to adapt really quickly and just get stuck in.

I have to say, teaching is the most rewarding job ever. When you think back over your day, you think of all the good things that have happened and it really makes your day. At the end of term it's so gratifying to see all the posters that the kids have put up and all the thank you cards I receive really makes it hit home what an effect you can have on children.

Since I've been teaching I've seen my pupils come on leaps and bounds and that really makes me believe that I'm doing a worthy job and that I'm having a positive impact on these young people.

All year I've been involved in other activities with the children. I've helped to set up the Young Enterprise scheme in the school and I was involved with a special activities day to reward the pupils that have put in hard work all year. I'll really miss some of them when I move on to my new school. I'll never forget my experience at Hamilton Grammar.
